Lecture and Exhibition Opening: Julius Shulman: Palm Springs

Julius Shulman: 70 years of Palm Springs Photography

Don’t miss the much-anticipated landmark retrospective exhibition of architectural photographer Julius Shulman at the Palm Springs Art Museum. Palm Springs, widely considered the mecca of mid-century modern architecture, was documented by Shulman for decades, and one of his most famous images is a twilight photograph of Palm Springs’ Kaufman House by architect Richard Neutra. His sensitivity and love of the region is made apparent by the breathtaking photographs that he has taken of the architecture of the California Desert.

Shulman, more than any single individual, was present for the evolution of the mid-century modern style in California that is now an international sensation, regularly covered in television, movies and print media. He is widely considered one of the greatest photographers of all time. Lecture by exhibition curator and co-author Michael Stern and Alan Hess co-author of Julius Shulman: Palm Springs (Rizzoli 2007) in Annenberg Theatre.

Exhibition reception follows in Museum from in Museum at 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Sponsored by the Architecture and Design Council.
