Come and join us for our second Modernism Week tour and discover one of the hidden treasures of Rancho Mirage at William Cody’s Country Club homes at Tamarisk Fairways, the first Historic District in the City of Rancho Mirage.
In the late 1960s, Cody was commissioned to design a cluster of eight homes to occupy a parcel of land on the 10th fairway of the prestigious Tamarisk Country Club. The lure of these new and spacious homes and introduction to “golf course living” attracted the likes of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Frank Sinatra, the Marx Brothers, Sammy Davis Jr., Jack Benny and many others. Built in the classic “Cody Style,” the homes feature large expanses of floor-to-ceiling glass walls sheltered by deep overhangs, atriums that are surrounded by open living spaces and, of course, the signature sunken cocktail bar. Seamless transitions from indoors to outdoors to golf course fairway are evident in the siting and orientation of these homes.
This tour presents a diverse range of interior furnishings and decor treatments from European and Asian antiquities, through an eclectic mix of modern and contemporary furniture, and a restrained Midcentury Modern inspired aesthetic, as each owner expresses their personal tastes and collections.
All of the homes are listed by the City of Rancho Mirage as Historic Sites, with five of them will be on the tour. Proceeds raised from this tour will be dedicated to future repair and maintenance of the common areas to keep our little jewel looking as it was meant to be.
