Behind the Gates in Indian Wells Tour and Reception
February 21, 2017 | 12:45 pm - 5:00 pm |
Architectural history and heritage beckon you to venture “behind the country club gates” to experience first-hand Indian Wells’ most iconic country club (to be revealed at tour check-in). Indeed, its influential significance was instrumental to Indian Wells’ designation and incorporation as an independent city, now poised to celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2017.
We start at the historic Indian Wells Resort Hotel, founded in 1957 by Hollywood legends Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, with free self-parking and check-in. Following check-in, a comfortable mini-coach will take you behind the gates to begin this unique, elite midcentury modern architectural tour.
Carefully curated for historic context, the tour showcases an array of magnificent homes. Each will be visited leisurely (25-30 minutes) allowing time to walk through, learn from knowledgeable docents and view gracious outdoor patio, pool and entertainment areas. Several properties were designed by William Cody, and another awaits authentication as a Walter S. White design.
During the mini-coach cruise, you will also pass by the legendary private 18-hole championship golf course, tranquil waterways, tennis courts and Cody cottages, all the while experiencing the inspirational trademark presence of the surrounding Santa Rosas and Eisenhower Mountain.
To conclude this inaugural Modernism Week tour, a sunset reception will be hosted in the famed Cody-designed clubhouse followed by a 4:45 p.m. mini-coach return to the hotel. Sunshine, golf, US presidents, a California governor, international dignitaries, entertainers, renown architects and athletes are all woven into the rich history of this magical place sprung from farmland producing sumptuous grapefruits, Thompson seedless grapes and supple dates. Join us in Indian Wells “behind the gates” and make your own history.
