SHAG’s Modern Exuberance: Artist Presentation & Book Signing
February 25, 2017 | 11:00 am - 12:00 pm |
Good modern design was originally minimal, functional and humble. At some point, that wasn’t enough – modern design became dramatic, ostentatious and cinematic. That’s the kind of design that inspires the artist SHAG, and he will talk about the transition of minimalism to maximalism and how it influenced his paintings and prints.
As the ‘50s and ‘60s progressed, homes grew larger, motion picture scenic designers embraced the modernist aesthetic, and magazines such as Playboy and Esquire posited that it was the proper style for wealthy sophisticates. Furniture design and architecture became bolder, more novel, and ostentatious, and many of the foundational principles of modernism were turned on their head. SHAG will share personal stories and anecdotes from his exploration and love of architecture and design, and will show examples of exuberant buildings, interiors and furniture from the real world and from his own home and art.
Immediately following this presentation, Josh will be heading over to the Dunn-Edwards Paints booth at CAMP for a book signing of his new book SHAG: The Collected Works. The book signing is free and open to the public.
