Sagewood: A Donald Wexler tour
February 17, 2018 | 10:00 am - 3:00 pm |
Tour Times: 10:00 am, 1:00 pm
The late Donald Wexler’s architecture embodies the essence of midcentury modernism through its sleek design and efficiency. Often lauded for his quiet elegance, Wexler designed Sagewood, a condominium development of 108 units in Palm Springs, to reflect the characteristics of his style: natural lines, integrated design logic, non-superfluous details, an innovative adaptation to the desert climate and an esthetic sense of seamlessly blending architecture and nature.
After his death in 2015, Wexler’s wizardly vision of streamlined architecture, which includes the Palm Springs International Airport and the Dinah Shore Estate, among other iconic structures, seems more relevant than ever. Sagewood, designed in 1972, is emblematic of Wexler’s midcentury vision of form, function and beauty.
The Sagewood self-guided tour features condominiums whose interior decor reflect Wexler’s design intentions and includes an added bonus: vintage midcentury automobiles will be parked around the Sagewood complex. Visitors are also encouraged to savor the 19 acres of green belt that Wexler included in his design. Docents inside each home will answer questions about Sagewood and the home interiors. The window of visitation time for each tour is two hours.
The funds from the tour will go to the Sagewood HOA reserve fund for sustainability projects, such as updated irrigation, desert landscaping and a solar power initiative.
