Cocktails at Canyon Country Club: A Tribute to Donald Wexler
February 21, 2018 | 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm |
Indian Canyons Neighborhood Organization and Hot Purple Energy present Cocktails at Canyon Country Club: A Tribute to Donald Wexler. Join us as we celebrate one of Palm Springs’ most influential midcentury modern architects at the iconic Canyon Country Club, designed by the architect himself in 1962. The club has a colorful history as a favorite haunt of Hollywood celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, and Dean Martin as well as former U.S. Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson and Ronald Reagan.
Enjoy a lively afternoon of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as special guests Robert Imber, educator and architectural preservationist, and Sidney Williams, former curator of Architecture and Design at the Palm Springs Art Museum and co-curator of the museum’s exhibition Steel and Shade – The Architecture of Donald Wexler, discuss the impact and legacy of Donald Wexler. His remarkable body of work, which includes his famed steel houses, the Palm Springs International Airport, the residence of Dinah Shore (now owned by Leonardo DiCaprio) and of course the Canyon Country Club, has enhanced our community immeasurably. After the presentation, enjoy live music and the stunning view of the Walt Disney Fountain as the sun sets over the majestic San Jacinto Mountains.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center and St. Theresa Catholic School Structures Program.
