The Watergate: Inside America’s Most Infamous Address

February 23, 2018 | 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm |

A new book reveals the secrets behind the midcentury masterpiece that became synonymous with scandal. Author Joseph Rodota tells the story of the Watergate, beginning with the first sketches by Italian architect Luigi Moretti, who promised to bring a “touch of Rome” to America’s capital city. This absorbing and meticulously researched history features a remarkable cast of characters, from Monica Lewinsky and Senator Bob Dole to Martha Mitchell and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Please join us for this illustrated talk, featuring vintage photos of this famous building, which the Washington Post once called “a glittering Potomac Titanic.”

Joseph Rodota is a California-based writer and political consultant. In addition to THE WATERGATE, he is the author of CHESSMAN, a play about the 1960 execution of Cary Chessman, the “Red Light Bandit,” as seen through the eyes of governor Pat Brown and his family.
