The Modernism Week Premier Double Decker Architectural Bus Tours are a comprehensive overview of the exteriors of Palm Springs’ finest architecture from a vantage point not often experienced – the upper deck of a modern double decker bus.
The tours feature entire neighborhoods and areas of the city that have made Palm Springs world famous for architecture. Designed to be fun and enlightening, the tours feature the two predominate architectural styles of Palm Springs – mid-century modern and Desert Spanish.
Tour highlights include the renowned Neutra Kaufmann Desert House and the Wexler Steel Houses, along with homes of the rich and famous, such as the striking architectural homes of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.
The Desert Spanish roots of Palm Springs are seen, including the O’Donnell House and the splendid estate, Villa Paradiso. Many of the city’s architecturally significant civic and commercial buildings are also a part of the tour, including Palm Springs City Hall, Saint Theresa Catholic Church and the iconic Tramway gas station, now the Palm Springs Visitors Center, which will be the midway stop of the tour.
