The Female Factor: Women in Design

    Modernism Week CAMP
333 S. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA 92262
    3:30 PM - 7:00 PM
    $100

Panel discussion at CAMP, co-moderated by style experts Pamela Fiori and Steven Stolman, featuring designer Laura Kirar and Jaime Rummerfield and Palm Springs own “Thomboys,” Jackie Thomas and DeeAnn McCoy, followed by an exclusive, high-energy cocktail party at a fabulous private residence.

The Female Factor is a well-documented force of nature across time and industry, and nowhere is that influence felt more than in the design world. From “America’s First Decorator” Elsie de Wolfe, to legends such as Dorothy Draper and Sister Parish, to the superstars of today, women have dominated the business of interior design with resounding success.

Midcentury Modern design is one of the most influential design movements of the 20th Century. The intersection of these two topics will make for a lively discussion with Laura Kirar of the eponymous design firm, along with Jackie Thomas and DeeAnn McCoy of Thomboy Properties.

Laura’s mission to foster artistic exploration in and to inspire others with art, craft and design from around the globe has made her an internationally renowned interior and product designer.

Jaime, who with Ron Woodson, co-owns LA’s tony Woodson & Rummerfield’s House of Design, expertly mixes the old and the new, with quality materials and noteworthy decorative arts and textiles, resulting in her own unique and memorable California style.

Jackie and DeeAnn have had a love affair with the desert dating back to the ’80s. In 2010, during the worst economic climate in a generation, they stepped away from the safety of their marketing and advertising careers to pursue their passion for midcentury modern architecture and formed Thomboy Properties, Inc. which re-imagines historical homes for the way people live today.

Co-moderated by author and designer Steven Stolman and renowned author and former editor-in-chief of Town & Country magazine, Pamela Fiori, this promises to be a spirited, not-to-be-missed event!

Following the panel discussion, you are invited to an exclusive cocktail reception, graciously sponsored by KOHLER, at the Signature Spotlight: Sierra Way house. Reimagined by Jackie and DeeAnn, it is one of the homes featured on the Modernism Week Signature Home Tour. You will have a chance to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres with the entire panel, and see exceptional midcentury modern design artfully brought to life.
Proceeds from this event benefit Modernism Week, whose mission is to celebrate and foster appreciation of midcentury architecture and design, as well as contemporary thinking in these fields, by encouraging education, preservation and sustainable modern living as represented in Palm Springs.
