Eisenhower Medical Center is pleased to present a lecture by Lauren Weiss Bricker, PhD, Professor of Architecture, Director of ENV Archives-Special Collections (California State Polytechnic University, Pomona) and Sidney J. Williams, Curator of Architecture and Design, Palm Springs Art Museum (co-authors of the catalog, Steel and Shade: The Architecture of Donald Wexler) on the history of the Palm Springs Merrill Lynch Building, built in 1971 and designed by Donald Wexler.

The Merrill Lynch Building is one of the iconic structures that make up the Palm Springs “Financial District,” an area that includes many architecturally significant treasures. Dr. Bricker and Ms. Williams will deliver this lecture on the building’s first floor and provide an overview of Donald Wexler and his influence on mid-century architecture and the Palm Springs area. They will focus on the Merrill Lynch Building and the reasons why it is considered one of Mr. Wexler’s most revered designs. Eisenhower, the current tenant of the building, is planning a restoration/renovation to be completed in late 2014. Prior to the lecture, Donald Wexler will be sharing his insights and thoughts about the building with Eisenhower’s architects.

Eisenhower Medical Center is a not-for-profit, comprehensive health care institution that includes the 540-bed Eisenhower Hospital, the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at Eisenhower and the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower (designed by E.
