St. Theresa Catholic Church Main Sanctuary Tour
February 25, 2017 |
Tour Times: 11:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:00 PM, 12:30 PM
St. Theresa Catholic Church has graciously allowed the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation (PSPF) to coordinate tours of the main sanctuary during Modernism Week 2017. St. Theresa Catholic Church (1968, William F. Cody) is considered one of architect Cody’s “masterworks.” Cody was an enthusiastic parishioner of the church and reportedly expended much time and creative effort on the commission. The church is in remarkably original condition and many of the interior elements designed by Cody remain intact. Tourgoers will receive an excerpt from PSPF’s 2004 out-of-print tribute journal “The Architecture of William F. Cody: A Desert Retrospective” and PSPF and church members will be on-hand to answer questions. In September of 2016, St. Theresa Catholic Church received a historic preservation grant from PSPF to help defray costs associated with the main sanctuary’s exterior rehabilitation.
The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to educate and promote public awareness of the importance of preserving the historical resources and architecture of the city of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley area.” PSPF offers free membership as a public benefit.
