The Alexanders: A Desert Legacy

February 22, 2017 | 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm |

Free

Author, architect and Palm Springs Preservation Foundation (PSPF) board member James R. Harlan will discuss the impact of the Alexander Construction Company on Palm Springs’ built environment and describe how the firm, led by George and Robert Alexander, developed a formula that combined professional architectural designs with modern building methods. As the author of PSPF’s popular tribute journal “The Alexanders: A Desert Legacy,” Jim is widely considered the expert on “all things Alexander.” His lecture will include vintage photographs and plans, and rely on lengthy interviews he conducted in 2010-2011 with architects William Krisel and the late Donald Wexler. This lecture is generously underwritten by Hedge Vintage | Eclectic Furnishings.

The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to educate and promote public awareness of the importance of preserving the historical resources and architecture of the city of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley area.” PSPF offers free membership as a public benefit.
